Orthopaedic Surgeon – Mr Arvind Jain:

Mr Arvind Jain specialises in adult reconstructive and joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee, particularly primary and revision joint replacement surgery.  He further specialises in performing minimally invasive total hip replacement using the direct anterior approach.  His expert skills extend to sporting injuries of the hip and knee joints, and he regularly performs ACL and multi-ligamentous knee reconstruction and hip arthroscopy.

Arvind works primarily at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, and Epworth Hospital, Richmond.  He plays an integral role in providing orthopaedic trauma services at The Alfred Hospital, one of the leading trauma centres in Australia, where he regularly performs complex trauma and reconstructive surgeries of the pelvis, hip and knee joint.  He also represents the Orthopaedic Unit at The Alfred in the multi-disciplinary care of patients with haemophilia who require hip and knee joint replacement.

Arvind has extensive training in orthopaedics and completed a Paediatric Orthopaedics Fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne in 2006.  In 2008 he undertook a Hip and Knee Replacement Fellowship at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne.  Subsequently he was offered a Trauma and Arthroplasty fellow position at The Alfred Hospital where he honed his surgical skills in complex reconstructions and joint replacement surgery involving the hip, knee and shoulder joint.

His relentless pursuit for excellence led him to train further with some of the best surgeons in Australia.  He underwent a 6 month fellowship in Hip Arthroscopy and Direct Anterior Minimally Invasive Total Hip Replacement with Mr John O’Donnell.

Arvind has had the opportunity to train in two different systems enabling him to acquire extensive knowledge in a wide variety of regular and complex orthopaedic conditions.  Prior to coming to Australia, Arvind obtained his specialist qualification in orthopaedics in India in 2004 and continued further training in a very high volume joint replacement centre in New Delhi, India.

Arvind has been keenly involved in research and was a co-investigator at the Alfred Hospital for a number of multi-centre international trials.  He has presented his research at national and international meetings.  Apart from his surgical commitments, he is an adjunct lecturer at Monash University.  He is involved in the selection process and training of future Australian Orthopaedic Surgeons and is involved in the teaching and training of medical students as well as overseas surgeons undertaking Fellowships at The Alfred Hospital.
